A MAN who subjected his former partner to months of abusive and derogatory messages and calls claimed he would not stop until he either made the woman take her own life or he killed himself.
Iain Macdonald was charged with the offences, which took place between January 2014 and March 2019, including harassing his ex by making phone calls, sending texts and emails that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.
The 41-year-old was found to have directed abusive and derogatory language towards the woman on a daily basis from a property in Prospecthill Road, Saltcoats and elsewhere.
He also repeatedly contacted his victim by phone, shouting, swearing and directing abusive language towards her whilst she was in hospital unwell at a point between April 1, 2019 and May 16, 2021.
Macdonald, listed in court papers as living in Falkirk, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing on March 15.

The charges against Macdonald stated that he also repeatedly contacted a 13-year-old girl by text and used abusive and derogatory language to describe his former partner.
Macdonald told the woman’s children that he would not stop his campaign of abuse until he either made the woman kill herself or he killed himself, and he repeatedly told the youngsters that he would have them taken away from their mum.
At the March 15 hearing, Sheriff Michael Hanlon described the case as a “very serious offence” and called Macdonald’s behaviour “completely unacceptable”.
Macdonald was sentenced to a community payback order requiring him to complete 140 hours of unpaid work within 12 months, while he will also be subject to supervision by the social work department for a period of two years.
He must attend at the Caledonian Programme for domestic abusers for two years and must not contact or communicate with, or attempt to contact or communicate with, his former partner for 12 months. A restriction of liberty order was also imposed meaning Macdonald has to be within his home address between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night for 14 weeks.
