Premier Leisure’s cinema in Saltcoats has been boosted with an injection of nearly £100,000 of funding.
The money was part of £3.19 million of recovery funding which has been gifted to Indie cinemas across the nation.
A total of 29 independent cinemas benefitted from the funding with a further two ‘touring cinemas’ also receiving a cash injection.
Premier Leisure in Saltcoats (previously the Apollo) was the benefactor of £91,459 of funding made available by the Scottish government through Screen Scotland.
It is hoped the money will help stabilise, rebuild and revitalise independent cinemas in Scotland, by addressing changes in the industry cause by Covid-19.
Sambrooke Scott, Head of Audience Development at Screen Scotland said: “Despite facing unprecedented challenges, cinemas have continued to provide vital cultural, social and economic hubs for the towns and cities they serve.
"This fund will ensure they are able to continue that work.”
Culture Secretary Angus Robertson added: “Local cinemas are a focal point for communities and these funds will help them to develop new activities to re-engage with, and grow, their audiences.”
