Tributes have been paid after a former councillor and convenor died.
The North Ayrshire Labour Group was saddened to report the death of Sam Taylor who who passed away on Sunday. Sam’s career in council crossed from employee to councillor and he was the last Convenor of North Ayrshire Council.
As an employee he served long term as a social worker with Strathclyde Regional Council. He also served in Cunninghame District Council holding many different roles.
Sam left office in 2007 at the introduction of multi member wards losing the election, which his party state was in most part due to his positioning on the ballot paper.
Donald Reid Labour group secretary said: “Sam has not enjoyed good health for a period. The Labour Group extend our sincere sympathies to wife Mary and the extended family at this sad time.”
Cllr Jim Montgomerie said: “I am very saddened to hear of the death of Sam Taylor. Sam was employed by the council then became an elected member. Sam was the last Convenor of North Ayrshire Council.
“Sam has been a huge influence during my time as a councillor. He was always there for me with the best advice and guidance. He was always so positive during difficult times.
“He was a well kent face about Saltcoats and he will be sadly missed. My thoughts are with Mary and his family.”
