NORTH AYRSHIRE’S primary schools came together last week for a day of athletics fun in the sun.
Over 120 athletes competed from 14 different schools, to see who could be crowned the county’s champion.
They came together at North Ayrshire Athletics Club’s facility in Saltcoats, situated at the town’s St Matthew’s Academy.
Events included 80m and 600m races, alongside the long jump and shot put contests.
It was a hotly contested championship, and third place went to Irvine’s Glebe Primary School, second to West Kilbride Primary School and the day’s winners were Caledonia Primary School from Saltcoats.
The championship was arranged jointly by North Ayrshire active schools and the North Ayrshire Athletics Club, who provided a number of volunteers to ensure the day ran smoothly.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Active schools said: “What a fantastic athletics event. Well done to all our teams who competed!
“Special thanks to our team, North Ayrshire Athletics Club and our superb volunteers who made the Primary Athletics a huge success today. 14 schools over 120 athletes.”
No matter the results, it certainly looked like everyone had a fantastic time - both the kids and the adults.
As one Dalry Primary teacher commented: “The Dalry Primary team had the most amazing time.
“New friendships made, good music played, races ran and fun been had! And I got a pulled hamstring from the adult race, worth it… I think.”
While Castlepark Primary School in Irvine gave a special shout out to their P6 pupils, who took part instead of their P7s, who were away.
