BUILDING work is due to start next month on a new college project in Kilwinning, it’s been announced.
Councillor Shaun Macaulay confirmed the go-ahead for the North Ayrshire Future Skills Hub when asked about the progress of the venture by Councillor Donald Reid at Wednesday’s full North Ayrshire Council meeting.
The hub is being led by Ayrshire College and North Ayrshire Council, with an overall funding package of £2.55 million including £850,000 from the college and £200,000 from the local authority, as well as contributions from the Magnox Socio Economic Panel, the Scottish Funding Council and the Ayrshire College Foundation,
The Hub will deliver a curriculum in Engineering, Construction and SMART Technologies for employers, primary schools, secondary schools and college students. The new facility will provide first-class training for people in Ayrshire for generations.
The contract for constructing the Hub has now been awarded to a local construction firm.
Building work is due to start in August, with the facility being handed over to the college by August 2023.
