ENVIRONMENTAL groups are urging members of the pubic to help keep Ayrshire beaches clean this summer.
The My Beach Your Beach campaign is a collaborative effort between environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and ScotRail that looks to encourage people to take small steps to maintain Ayrshire’s beaches.
As part of the campaign, stations in Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Irvine, Troon, and Ayr will have displays reminding people to take their litter home or bin it, and to bag and bin dog poo.
Paul Wallace, Keep Scotland Beautiful’s campaigns manager, said: “Every year thousands of day trippers take a train from Glasgow Central ‘doon the watter’ to the stunning Ayrshire beaches.
“It is great to be working with ScotRail again this year – we all want people to value and care for the beaches they visit this summer.
“The new banners and messaging will play a large part in encouraging people to leave the beach they chose to visit cleaner than they found it – which we know from our recent survey 82 per cent of visitors want to do.”
The campaign is supported by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and run by the Scottish Government.
