TRAINS in Ayrshire are being disrupted after ScotRail introduced temporary speed restrictions on many routes in response to a Met Office weather warning.
A yellow ‘be aware’ warning is in place across the west of Scotland until 2pm on Friday, September 30.
The warning comes alongside forecasts of strong winds for much of the country, with gusts in parts of Ayrshire expected to reach more than 50 miles per hour late on Friday morning.
ScotRail is warning of delays and cancellations on many routes as a result of the speed restrictions which have been imposed on parts of its network.
The rail operator says that services on the route between Stranraer, Ayr and Kilmarnock are being delayed by up to 15 minutes, and that trains between Glasgow Central and Carlisle, via Kilmarnock, Auchinleck, New Cumnock, Kirkconnel, Sanquhar and Dumfries, may run up to 30 minutes late because of the restrictions.
As this article was published there were no restrictions in place on the routes linking Ayr, Ardrossan and Largs with Glasgow via Kilwinning.
