Skincare by Ruth: Ruth Chapman is hair and beauty awards finalist

Ruth Chapman, who's business Skincare by Ruth is based in Ardrossan, is a finalist in the Best New Talent of the Year category of the UK Hair and Beauty Awards.

The 21-year-old studio owner has put her heart and soul into her business since opening in June of last year.

She has gone from strength to strength, with this award nominated just the icing on the cake.

Ruth left a life in the skies for a life in skincare, and still can't comprehend how perfectly everything has fallen into place.

She commented: “I can’t believe I am a finalist! This time last year my garage, now studio, was a construction site and it was hard to imagine how it would all come together.

"After taking unwell I left my full-time job as cabin crew, to focus on my health and grow my own business.

"I couldn’t have done it without the constant support from my family and I’ll be forever grateful for that. It was scary taking the leap but ultimately it has been so worth it.

"I am so passionate about giving my clients the best experience. I want all my clients to leave feeling amazing."

Ruth also looked to explain why she got into the industry in the first place, acknowledging her own experiences as her inspiration.

She said: "I suffered from severe acne as a teenager, and this is my way of giving back. Helping people find their confidence within their own skin.

"I love learning new things about beauty and keeping up to date with current trends.

"I am constantly working on my business; running social media is a full-time job in itself!

"I am always connecting with other businesses and trying to gain more knowledge to better my skills for my clients."

And while Ruth remained humble, she has certainly put in a lot of effort to get to this point at such an early stage in her career.

She added: "There has always been a stigma around owning a beauty business however, I have never worked so hard in my life. No one’s going to run my business for me!

"I have worked so hard to be able to offer a range of beauty treatments for my clients including a range of facials, HD brows and lash lifts.”

The UK Hair and Beauty Awards celebrate the industry in an aim to support businesses both large and small and expose all candidates to new opportunities via social media, no matter their financial and social status.

The UK Hair and Beauty Awards is an established competition with over 32,000 followers on Instagram.
