SALTCOATS' Wetherspoons pub is planning to take a step away from the norms associated with the establishments.
The Salt Cot, on Hamilton Street, have submitted an application to North Ayrshire Council which would see a range of events hosted in the premises.
They say this comes following an increased interest from locals and businesses in such activities being hosted in the venue.
A representative from the establishment said there is "a lot of interest from local businesses to participate in a craft fayre in the pub". They added that there has been a growing number of customers who wish to see more events in the Salt Cot.
This would include evenings such as psychic or tarot nights and quiz nights.
The pub has hosted quiz nights previously, such as a World Cup themed event in 2018 - though nothing of the sort has been organised since before the Covid pandemic.
A spokesperson commented: "Wetherspoon also believes that such activities will increase footfall in the area thereby benefiting other local businesses too."
This official application states they wish to: "Add indoor/outdoor sports additional activities in OP Q5(f) to include: Community Events, Quiz Nights, Bingo Nights, Craft Fayres with local businesses, Other events like psychic nights and tarot reading nights."
If granted, it would be a similar move to that which has already been seen in one of North Ayrshire's other Wethersppon establishments - The Auld Brig in Irvine.
The Irvine Wetherspoon situated at the Rivergate Shopping Centre is due to host a tarot evening later this month - Tuesday February 21.
If approved, it would be a move which would see the pub step away from the norms associated with Wetherspoon establishments.
The lack of music and sporting and other events being shown in the venues typically means critics brand their bars "lifeless".
Though with events like this, The Salt Cot could certainly bring a bit more life to Saltcoats' town centre.
The application will most likely be brought to the council's licencing board at their next meeting, on March 8, for approval.
