River City star Alison Peebles will visit Stevenston to direct an original play by a local writer.
The actress – who plays Isobel McKenzie in River City and Mrs Juniper in Molly and Mack – is excited to return to the town to take part in rehearsals as the director of the intense monologue 'Demanding Maureen' by David Kilby.
The play is one of three original scripts being performed as part of ‘Stage to Page - On Tour!’ in Stevenston’s Ardeer Community Centre on March 27.
Alison said: “I love new writing and also have great memories of the shore at Saltcoats and Stevenston so it’ll be a joy to visit again.
“This is always a fascinating evening and a great opportunity for actors of all levels to watch - even be part of - the first reading of a completely new piece of writing in its very early stages.”
Whilst primarily known for her TV appearances, Alison’s career spans three decades and includes TV, theatre, radio, and film productions with Alison even directing short and feature length films.
Saltcoats playwright Graeme Cobb’s play 'My Journey' will also be rehearsed during the Stevenston stop of the tour and will be directed by Scottish theatre and film director David Goodall.
While Graeme is keeping the plot under wraps, he does promise an “emotional rollercoaster” for the audience.
Saltcoats born Stage to Page member Jack Dickson said: “This is a one-off opportunity to watch, ‘up-close-and-personal’, one of Scotland’s greatest theatre and film talents at the top of her game - AND to support a local Three Towns event.
“Me and my pals saw the Bay City Rollers when they played there, back in the day, so this is a bit like coming home for me.”
My Journey was chosen by Stage to Page after Graeme submitted it to their open call for submissions.
The play will be developed by Ardrossan-based Triple Act Theatre who Graeme has worked with before as an actor in their October 2022 production Three Tales for Three Towns.
