A DALRY director will be working alongside two prolific theatre-makers on a "challenging" but "important" Stevenston show this month.
Charlotte Webb will be directing a rehearsal of Rory Kelly’s short play ‘Occupied’ at Stevenston’s Ardeer Centre on March 27 as part of ‘Stage to Page - on Tour!’.
She will be working alongside theatre and TV actress Alison Peebles – known for her role as River City’s Isobel McKenzie – who will be directing the monologue ‘Demanding Maureen’ by David Kilby – and acclaimed film and theatre director David Goodall, who is helming Graeme Cobb’s first piece for the stage, ‘My Journey’.
Charlotte said: “This is my first time directing for Stage to Page and I’m really excited.
“It’s going to be challenging - only one hour’s rehearsal with actors who have never seen the text before, then we perform the piece, script-in-hand, for the audience but this is what theatre’s all about.”
Charlotte, who is originally from the West Midlands, has 10 years of experience on stage and film and began working for Ardrossan-based company Triple Act Theatre during lockdown.
While the upcoming Stevenston show is nothing like what she’s done before, she believes ‘Occupied’ is a play with a meaning that’s valuable today and is happy she gets to help convey it to audiences.
Charlotte added: “[Occupied is] a humorous piece with an important message at its heart.
“Theatre offers us new ways to understand the world, ourselves and each other.
“Right now, for me that seems more important than ever.”
Each play was selected by Stage to Page – a collective for writers, directors and actors – via their open submissions call.
Actor, writer and Stage to Page member Linda Duncan McLaughlin said: “This is a rare opportunity for audiences to get a fascinating, ‘behind the scenes’ peek at the rehearsal process and watch professional directors at work.”
The production has been developed with Ardrossan theatre group Triple Act Theatre and Arts.
Tickets for the show cost just £4 and are available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/north-ayrshire/ardeer-community-centre/stage-to-page-on-tour.
