AN ARDROSSAN girl made history at the weekend, as she retained her British boxing crown.
Brooke Neely was one of ten Scots who won gold at the GB Junior and Youth Three Nations Championships - competed between Scotland, England and Wales - held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4.
And though every medal was meaningful, the 18-year-old's title win in the youth 48kg division was that little bit more special.
That is because the Irvine Vineburgh boxer, who also trains at Bridgeton, where she is a member of the Scotland Elite boxing squad, became the first Scottish female boxer to win four GB gold medals - having enjoyed great success in the championship in the past.
In fact, she added to the history she created in 2022, when she became the first female Scottish boxer to win three consecutive titles.
And speaking to Boxing Scotland after her 4-1 split decision win over England's Frances Coope, Brooke simply could not hide her delight.
She said: “[It's] Amazing, it’s like the best day ever, I just can’t believe it.
“I just can’t believe it. That’s what I’m here for though, to just keep winning.
“I’ve been training in the gym and Boxing Scotland so it’s just great to win – again.”
It was a great send off for the St Matthew's Academy pupil, who was fighting in this competition for the final time before stepping up from youth level to senior boxing.
And now, she has her sights set high as she moves forward in her career.
Brooke commented: “I want in the GB team, really bad, that’s my aim for this year.
“To go to the GB team, do my assessments, and hopefully be in it when I’m a senior.
"I know they’ll get me so much better than I already am and I want to go to the next Commonwealth Games.”
