PLANS to revitalise a Beith skate park for future generations have been given the green light.
The proposals for the park at Orr's Trust Public Park on Muirpark Road in the town have been in the making for nearly a year now.
And they took the latest step towards becoming a reality this week when the Beith and District Community Council's planning application for the improvement works was approved.
In addition to seeing the skating facilities improved - the plans will also see the addition of six outdoor gym items to the area.
And a showpiece zip wire has also been approved as part of the proposals for the facility adjacent to the public football park.
The zip wire, which will be nearly 28m long, will be placed at the opposite side of the park from the skate park.
The Herald first reported the plans back in September last year, when the Beith Playpark Action Group (BPAG) began seeking the funding to add the facilities as well as improving the skate park.
At this time, fundraising project were launched, by the Beith Playpark Action Group (BPAG), in a bid to make their plans become reality - though a majority of funding was anticipated to come from grants and trusts.
And while they are still raising funds, their dream new facility doesn't seem far off.
It's something the group will be very excited to see progress.
Speaking when they launched their fundraising initiative, BPAG secretary Kathryn Young commented on the groups hopes for the park.
She said this was a chance for locals to "invest in the park for the next generation of children".
Now, it seems that this dream park is a lot closer to becoming a reality.
