THERE was plenty fun to be had in North Ayrshire last weekend.
As Scotland prepares to host the UCI Cycling World Championships, people from all parts of the nation are being encouraged to get on their bikes to promote healthier and more eco-friendly lifestyles.
And taking place in Irvine last weekend, Sunday, June 11, was North Ayrshire's very own cycling event ahead of the worldwide championship being held in Glasgow and across Scotland from August 3-13.
It was a family fun day which was free to all, held at the Circuit in Irvine.
At the town's newest sporting facility, it took advantage of its very own cycling loop.
Open to all ages and for those of all abilities, there were a series of different cycling activities including a cycling arcade, mega-bike, e-bike loans, try-a-bike, balance bike sessions, Dr Bike and free bike checks.
There were also be stalls holding competitions and giving out freebies.
Supported by Event Scotland and Cycling Scotland, North Ayrshire Council, which organised the event, was delighted by its success.
Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for place, said: "There are so many benefits to cycling.
"It is a great sport to watch and participate in and having the World Championships nearby is really exciting and an opportunity to create a legacy.
“Cycling is great way for families to spend quality outdoor time together. It is healthy and great for your wellbeing and the environment.
“We are trying to create a much more sustainable North Ayrshire and cycling will form a key part of that.”
