TWO community groups in Saltcoats have joined forces to offer struggling families a helping hand with the cost of going back to school next month.

The Saltcoats Link Up Team and the Argyle Community Association will offer free back-to-school haircuts for local children.

The haircuts will be provided at an event at the Argyle Community Centre in Campbell Avenue on Wednesday, August 16.

A local barber and hairdresser is backing the event, which runs from 12.30pm until 5pm.

Nursery, primary and secondary school children are all being invited along for the "back to school trims".

No appointment is necessary for the haircuts - though organisers say that those coming along may need to wait, depending on the popularity of the event.

All children and young people coming along for the event must also be accompanied by an adult.

This event is for back to school haircuts only - and that only dry cuts will be offered unless you come with wet hair.

Restyling and colouring will not be available.
