POLICE have confirmed that a woman was tasered on Glasgow Street in Ardrossan yesterday, Monday, September 11.
It comes after a video circulated online showing the incident.
This appeared to show around eight officers surrounding the woman as she looked to evade capture - before the device was discharged and the suspect was apprehended.
It is understood the woman had allegedly been involved in an incident at the nearby Asda supermarket before she was caught.
Police Scotland have today confirmed the incident which led to the use of a taser.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 4.50pm on Monday, September 11, police were called to a report of theft and a woman threatening staff with a weapon at a shop in Harbour Road, Ardrossan.
“Officers attended and the 35-year-old woman was traced nearby in Glasgow Street.
"She was arrested and charged in connection with this incident and is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, September 12.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
“A Taser was discharged during this incident. As is part of standard procedure, the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.”
