THEFTS have been reported at the site of a Stevenston housing development - only days before work is due to start.
Police were spotted around the site of Cunninghame House Association's Garven Road site at around 10am on Friday, September 22.
Reports suggest that officers remained at the site for several hours afterwards.
Now Police Scotland have confirmed that they were responding to two reports of theft from the building site - and have launched an investigation.
Main contractor Ashleigh is due to begin work on site at the start of next week.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating two thefts from a building site in Garven Road, Stevenston.
“The first incident is believed to have occurred overnight between Wednesday, September 20, and Thursday, September 21.
“The second incident is believed to have occurred overnight between Thursday, September 21 and Friday, September 22.
“Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances.”
Ground is set to be broken at the former Ardeer Primary School site on Monday, September 25.
A total of 20 new homes are set to be built for affordable rent and overall completion of the work is expected by late summer 2024.
