A MAN is in a "serious" condition in hospital following an incident in Stevenston on Monday, September 25.
It follows an alleged serious assault on the town's Glencairn Street which saw emergency crews rush to the area yesterday evening.
A number of police vehicles rushed to the scene, as well as at three ambulance vehiclea, with locals stating that an area of the street had been taped off, with no public access allowed, from the end closest to the Ardeer Services and Hayocks Road.
Officers say they were called to the street shortly after 6pm on Monday following reports of the assault as well as a "disturbance".
A 44-year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital with serious, but not life-thretening, injuries.
A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in the coming days.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.05pm on Monday, 25 September, 2023, police received a report of a disturbance and the serious assault of a 44-year-old man in the Glencairn Street area of Stevenston.
“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital, with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
“A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, and is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 27 September, 2023.”
While a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We received a call at 18:08 on Monday, September 25, to attend an incident on Glencairn Street, Stevenson.
"We dispatched three ambulances to the scene and one patient was transported to University Hospital Crosshouse.”
