A major road closure will come into place on the A77 next weekend between Kilmarnock and South Ayrshire.

Amey is undertaking essential resurfacing from Thursday, October 19 until Monday, October 23.

This scheme will benefit around 24,500 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using a full weekend closure between Bellfield interchange and Spittalhill Interchange between 8pm on Friday, October 20 and 6am on Monday, October 23, and a signed diversion will be in operation.

There will also be lane closures on the southbound A77 between 8pm on Thursday, October 19 and 6am on Friday, October 20, and on the northbound carriageway on Sunday, October 22.

Signed diversions will operate as follows:

Southbound A77 traffic will be diverted onto the southbound A76 and will take the third exit at Crossroads Roundabout onto the A719 to re-join the A77 at Sandyford Toll Roundabout.

Traffic for the A78 will be signed to leave the M77 at Junction 8 onto the B7038 Glasgow Road to follow Western Road, Munro Avenue, Irvine Road and the B7081 to Moorfield Roundabout, taking the third exit onto the A71 westbound towards the A78.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
