A WOMAN was allegedly assaulted in an early hours attack in Saltcoats this morning.
Police Scotland confirmed the incident which is claimed to have taken place on the town's Windmill Street at around 1.20am on Saturday, November 11.
It comes after locals had reported that an area of the street, adjacent to the Nonsuch Bar and Amusements, had been cordoned off by police.
At this stage there is nothing to suggest the allegations were in anyway related to the premises.
Eyewitnesses stated that a small area of bushes near the car parking spaces on the street had been taped off.
It is understood that the cordon has since been lifted.
Police Scotland say they are now investigating an alleged assault and that their enquiries are at an early stage.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 1.20am on Saturday, November 11, 2023, police received a report of the alleged assault of a woman in the Windmill Street area of Saltcoats.
"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are at an early stage.”
