Police later confirmed they were responding to reports of an assault on a 35-year-old woman and have today launched an appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Fraser Spence said: “It’s vital we find out exactly what happened to this woman.
“Although she wasn’t seriously injured, she’s been left extremely shaken by what happened.
“We know the area isn’t particularly busy at that time of night, so I’d ask anyone who was in The Braes or shore front area around 1am on Saturday to contact us. You may have information which could assist our enquiries.
“I would also appeal to anyone with private CCTV or dash cam footage to review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
