WORK is well under way to create a new cafe and community hub on Ardrossan's South Beach.
The hub will be erected in place of the former toilet blocks in the busy shore front area after demolition of the public conveniences was completed.
McLaughlin Construction - who are completing the work on behalf of the Ardrossan Community Development Trust (ACDT) - have now completely removed the block from the landscape after beginning the project on November 13.
Once completed, the new ‘hub on the prom’ will provide a café, toilets - which will include a changing places toilet designed to meet the needs of people with complex care needs - and a service area for the ACDT’s activities on the promenade.
On completion of the full South Beach project, the activities will include servicing of the wheeler and deckchair projects and the reintroduction of the crazy golf course.
The first phase of the project - which the trust is delivering alongside partners North Ayrshire Council, Cunninghame Housing Association, Mast Architects and TCS Construction - at the prom is expected to be completed by March next year, when a all of these exciting new additions will be available at the popular beauty spot.
Plans include the introduction of four beach huts which can be rented seasonally and the introduction of a new bike hut which will provide charging point for electric bikes, storage for bikes and an area for maintenance.

Work that has already taken place, thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, has seen the introduction of new play parks on either side of the footway, across from the Lauriston Hotel, leading down to the prom.
While it is hoped that further phases of the development, beyond the initial £250,000 first phase, will also be possible in the near future as the ACDT looks to add to what Ardrossan has to offer.
