A FORMER RAF sergeant from Saltcoats recently celebrated a milestone birthday.
Matilda Irvine, who was born and raised in the town, turned 100 on December 21.
It was a fantastic day of celebration for Matilda, who still lives on the town's High Road.
The occasion was marked alongside family and friends, who came together for a celebration held in a local restaurant.
And Matilda was smiling from ear to ear as she received a number of cards and gifts to mark the milestone occasion.
Amongst her cards was one from King Charles, while she was also sent a lovely bouquet of flowers from the RAF, with whom she served at the end of the Second World War.
Matilda was an acting sergeant in the RAF, joining on August 9, 1945 - just a week before Japan's surrender brought an end to the conflict.
The 100-year-old was raised in Hirst Place in Saltcoats, at the town's Quay, a street which is no longer there.
She and her husband Frank moved to Fontainebleu in France, where Frank was stationed, before returning to live in Saltcoats.
From all at the Herald - we hope you had a fantastic birthday Matilda!
