A MAN was taken to hospital following a crash on a busy commuter road between Ardrossan and West Kilbride.
Police have now launched an investigation into the incident, which took place on the A78 (Shore Road).
Officers were called to the scene shortly after 8pm on Thursday, January 4.
Locals reported heavy delays on the busy route while emergency services attended the scene.
Police have not disclosed how many vehicles were involved in the crash and no update has yet been provided on the condition of the man taken to hospital.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.10pm on Thursday, January 4, police were called to a road crash on the A78, near Ardrossan.
"One man taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing."
