A KILBIRNIE man has "taken steps" to overcome his issues after being caught driving while under the influence.
Alex Harrison appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
The 30-year-old was caught on the B780 at Holmhead in his home town on August 31 last year.
Harrison's solicitor told the court how the Kilbirnie man "had a troubled upbringing".
The lawyer added: "This caused him to fall into drug misuse but he has taken steps to address these issues.”
The court heard Harrison, of Brierley Court, had been working before the incident but was no longer in employment.
Sheriff Murdoch Mactaggart placed the 30-year-old on a community payback order with 12 months of social work supervision.
A 'conduct requirement' was imposed under which Harrison must attend for alcohol and drug treatment whenever required by his supervising officer.
Harrison was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within six months, and was banned from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a year.
