Great performances as young pipers compete at Auchenharvie

Some 80 entries were accepted from pipers from all over Ayrshire, each representing their schools in various events, from primary chanters to senior pipers, in a full day of competition.

Alan Bateson from the Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band, judged the chanters, with Pipe Major John Nevans from Airdrie judging the pipers.

The results were: 

Primary school chanter champions: Struthers Primary School, Troon.

Secondary Piping champions: Marr College.

Overall senior piper: Caelyn Wood, Marr College.

Primary Chanter March: 1 Calum Hayes, Largs Primary; 2 Matthew Wright, Beith Primary; 3 Jock Howay, Kilmaurs Primary.

Primary Chanter, Slow Air: 1 Jock Howay, Kilmaurs Primary; 2 Ethan Donnachy, Gateside Primary; 3 Calum Gayes, Largs Primary.

Secondary Chanter, March: 1 Robbie McFadzean, Wellington School.

Piping Goose Competition: 1 Tom Strak, Marr College; 2 Eva Gall, Marr College; 3 McKayla Wilson, Belmont Academy.

Junior Piping Slow Air: 1 Melissa Leary, Robert Burns Academy; 2 Keeva Esson, Irvine; 3 Kitty Townsend, Arran High School.

Junior Piping March: 1 Alfie Gilmore, Arran High School; 2 Kitty Townsend, Arran High School; 3 Melissa Leary, Robert Burns Academy.

Senior Piping MSR: 1 Ewan Johnstone, Wellington School; 2 Caelyn Wood, Marr College; 3 Katherine Coyle, Arran High School.

Senior Piping Open Jig: 1 Conal Rae, Irvine; 2 Katherine Coyle, Arran High School; 3 Caelyn Wood, Marr College.

The Caledonian Piping Club were represented in most classes and managed to get a fourth place in the primary chanter competition thanks to Sinead McCreadie of St Anthony's Primary, and a very credible sixth in a big field in the Open Jig class, thanks to Kaya Tatar of Largs Academy.
