A WOMAN is in a critical condition after being struck by a car in Kilwinning.
The 56-year-old was struck when she was crossing the road in the Lauchlan Road area of the town on Wednesday, march 13.
Police officers were called to the scene at around 7pm where the female was found seriously injured after being struck by a Ford Fiesta car while crossing the road there.
She was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe her condition as 'critical'.
The occupant of the car was not injured as a result of the incident.
The road was closed for seven hours following the crash as police conducted investigations before re-opening at 2am on Thursday, March 14.
Officers are now asking members of the public who may have further information to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
Road Policing Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: "Our enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing.
"Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police to get in touch.
"Lauchlan Way is a busy road and there would have been a number of people and vehicles in the area at the time.
“We are particularly keen to trace the driver of a car which was heading east at the time and may have information which could assist our enquiries.”
Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 3140 of Wednesday, March 13, 2024, when calling.
