AN INSPIRATIONAL Ardrossan teen battling a rare form of cancer has continued in her selfless quest to help others.

Georgie Hyslop had her life turned upside down in December when she received the heartbreaking diagnosis.

The 15-year-old suffered what was initially thought to be a stress fracture in one of her bones.

After doctors noticed it was not healing, MRI and CT scans later diagnosed Georgie with a rare cancer called Ewing sarcoma, which occurs in bones or the soft tissue around them.

Georgie, who works as a paper girl delivering the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, has temporarily passed on her job to her sister Megan as she undergoes chemotherapy.

However, the brave teenager has not let her health struggles get her down.

Following her own diagnosis Georgie started a fundraising page aimed at supporting three causes which have offered her support.

The Ardrossan Academy pupil and her family intend for money raised to be donated to the Schiehallion Ward at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, where Georgie is being treated.

Funds will also be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Marion's House - a charity that helps children, young people and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.

Efforts got off to a fantastic start with the £10,000 barrier smashed through during a first fundraiser held in January - as Georgie, friends and family 'braved the save' at DDs Cutz in Ardrossan.

Georgie's mission to give back has not stopped there, though, with the inspirational teen continuing her efforts amidst her own battle with the horrible disease.

Ahead of a recent scan Georgie's mum Lynn explained the amazing lengths her daughter was going to in her bid to support others - as well as tackling her own fight with incredible strength.

Her latest effort saw Georgie create 'pocket hugs' in the form of hearts to give to other hospital patients.

Lynn said: "Georgie is amazing. She’s continuing to help others.

"Her devastating diagnosis in December had us thinking 'how are we getting through Christmas?'. Now we are at Easter and she’s just amazing.

"The doctors thought she would have a feeding tube at round three [of chemotherapy], but through Georgie's sheer determination we are going in to round nine and the feeding tube is nowhere to be seen - she is a power house!

"We are going to the Beatson for a scan and we are taking Georgie's hugs with us to give out to the patients.

"We have been selling them for proceeds for the hospital, but wanted to give the patients something to cheer them up."

The latest of Georgie's fundraising events was a fun day held at the Labour Club in Saltcoats last weekend.

Kind-hearted friends, family and locals all turned out alongside emergency services personnel to ensure a fantastic day was had.

All of Georgie's fantastic efforts have seen £17,396 raised for her chosen charities so far, with an initial £5,000 already donated to all three.

But the teen is not stopping her efforts there, and donations can still be made online at tinyurl.com/GeorgieHyslop.
