A West Scotland MSP has hit out at the Scottish Government following the news that the main Ardrossan to Brodick ferry will remain out of action until August.
Katy Clark, of Scottish Labour, said: “This latest delay is another appalling reminder of the Scottish Government’s failure to adequately replenish our ageing fleet.
“Ardrossan-Brodick is the busiest service on the entire Clyde and Hebrides ferry network.
"As it stands, it is being served by the oldest vessel in the fleet, the MV Isle of Arran, and the only cover is the MV Alfred running from Troon on a less frequent daily basis.
“The summer is a key period for the island in terms of tourism and business.
"Now, islanders are set to suffer another few months worrying about the impact of the ferries fiasco on their livelihoods."
The MSP added: "Last month, I pressed the Transport Secretary for additional measures to ensure additional capacity is available in July-August.
"The Scottish Government must work with CalMac and set out what mitigatory steps it will take.”
On Thursday, Scotland's Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said she understood the "frustration" of residents after both islands' main ferries were put out of action for months.

Ms Hyslop said she was a considering a request for extra funding to increase passenger capacity on MV Alfred, which is currently operating between Troon and Brodick.
She told the Scottish Parliament: "I understand that the news yesterday from CalMac, advising that the expected return date for MV Caledonian Isles is now August, will be frustrating for the community.
"I continue to urge CalMac to work closely with both communities to make better use of the available vessels and provide as much capacity as possible throughout this period of disruption.
"I also appreciate the patience of passengers as a consequences of this temporary vessel deployment to help support the islands."
