THE owner of a Saltcoats 'dog boutique' says she was "in total shock" after her business was hailed as the best in Ayrshire.
Christy Mcallister simply couldn't believe it when her business, Sassy Pooch Dog Grooming and Boutique, was named as the 'Best Salon Based Dog Groomer' in the county at the Local Pet Awards.
It comes less than two years after she first launched the business after converting an old barn at Diddup Farm in Saltcoats.
Initially working on her own, she later rented out a table within, and with the help of colleague Georgia the business has gone from strength to strength.
Sassy Pooch now offers much more than a dog grooming service and expanded into the 'K9 Country Club and Spa' - offering boarding, daycare and grooming.
Despite the success since opening in 2022, Christy admits she was shocked when she heard the business had been nominated for a Local Pet Award.
She commented: "I was so grateful for these nominations, having only been in business a short time compared to many others in the area.
"I didn't expect it to go any further. I was just so pleased to have been nominated."
So Christy had little expectation when she headed to the awards final at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow last month with her sister and workmate.
But she was in for a welcome surprise at the red carpet event, hosted by TV presenter Carol Smillie.
Christy said: "Never in a million years did I expect to win.
"When 'Sassy Pooch Dog Grooming' was called, I was in total shock and couldn't believe it. It took a few moments to take it in and realise it was me!
"We went on stage and were presented with a beautiful glass trophy and certificate and had pictures taken. I was completely shocked!
"It was such an amazing feeling to think so many people had taken time out of their day to vote for me and got me here."
Following the success, Christy was quick to thank all those who made it possible.
She added: "I'd like to thank my family for all their support while I was literally building this business from scratch and being there through thick and thin.
"Thanks to my colleague, Georgia, for being so good to work with and helping to make the whole grooming experience better for dogs, and most of all, thanks to my amazing customers - I wouldn't be where I am without them.
"I feel so honoured that I am trusted with their precious pooches. Each and every one has a special place in my heart."
