This week, we're looking back at the big stories and photos from the Herald in May 2004.
Do you recognise anyone in these pics from 20 years ago?
An Ardrossan schoolboy turned in a great performance acting in a 2004 BBC TV programme. Ardrossan Academy S1 pupil Graham Bell (13) played the part of a troubled youth in an episode of Panorama. Mum Linda revealed: “Graham was telling Andy’s story, about a boy whose mum was a drug addict and he tried to hide it from his dad. He was really convincing.” Maybe too convincing as some school pals told him the next day: “I didn’t know your mum was a junkie…”
Sergeant David Elliot (left) and Corporal Raymond Boyce (right) from 1138 Ardrossan Squadron ATC represented the UK team in the Corps Football Championships in May 2004. They are pictured with Air Commodore Chitty.
Kilwinning Academy Sixth Year pupil Emma Walker (left) was heading on the 10-week expedition of a lifetime to Fiji in July 2004 and was given a donation of £600 towards the trip by the school’s charities committee. She is seen here accepting the £600 cheque from charities committee members and fellow pupils Fiona McCarlie, Kirsten Lynn and Rachael Kaur,
Sponsor John Hewitson from Murray Martin Services Ltd is pictured with club Chairman Hugh Finnigan at the Garnock Sharks 2004 swimming gala.
Beith Minister the Rev Fiona Ross was left drookit by sponge-wielding schookids as she spent some time in the stocks to raise cash for the Christian Action Day in 2004.
Pupils from Stanley Primary were joined by Councillor Margaret Munn this week as they took part in Walk To School Week in May 2004.
