A TRIO of Three Towns schools have been celebrating success in the 'Beat the Street' competition.

The contest was set up to encourage the community to move more, and to make small lifestyle changes such as ditching the car and walking, cycling, running or scooting instead.

The initiative was ran across a number of North Ayrshire town, as well as Helensburgh, Dunoon, Rothesay and Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from February 14 to March 27.

Points were awarded in the fun active game by visiting 'beat boxes' which were places across the competing towns, with points awarded for each box visited.

People of all ages were welcome to take part on behalf of participating schools and it is safe to say that the people of the Three Towns were well and truly engrossed in the competition.

Top three prizes have now been handed out to local schools, with awards in two different categories: average points and total points.

Locally, Stanley Primary School in Ardrossan claimed top prize in the total points contest, and second place on average.

The best average points total came from St Anthony's Primary in Saltcoats, who also claimed the second highest total points.

There was further success in Saltcoats for Mayfield Primary School, who scooped the third place prize in both categories.

The winning schools were presented with special certificates to mark their achievements, as well as trophies for the top ranking primaries.
