Kilwinning, Arran and North Ayrshire have had their Fair Trade status renewed for another three years.
And the news has delighted the North Ayrshire Fair Trade Zone Group.
The renewal was confirmed by the Fairtrade Foundation and means that the area is recognised as a place that supports sustainable development and also supports fair wages and prices for people who produce goods in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Fairtrade sets social, economic and environmental standards for the companies and farmers involved in the supply chain.
The Fairtrade mark celebrates 30 years this year, and the annual Fair Trade Fortnight, will take place from September 9 to 22.
A spokesperson for the North Ayrshire Fair Trade Groups aid: "For farmers and workers, the standards include protection of workers’ rights and the environment.
"For companies they include the payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price safety net and an additional Fairtrade Premium.
"Encouraging Fair Trade goods can also bring economic development to North Ayrshire by promoting local businesses that use or stock local produce and Fair Trade goods."
