THE organisers of a community event in West Kilbride have announced it has been postponed.

The free 'Midsummer Mania' event was due to be held on Friday, June 21.

But the Vertex team, who run a range of events in the area throughout the year, have announced they've had to pull the plug due to illness.

The event was to have taken place at the Barony Centre on the longest day of the year, with a range of midsummer-related activities including making a summer crown, listening to a folk tale, and watching some of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

But the Vertex team say a spike in norovirus cases at West Kilbride Primary School left them with no option but to cancel.

The evening of music, games, quizzes and craft and storytelling is now expected to take place later in the summer.

A spokesperson for the Vertex Visions team said: "Due to a bad case of norovirus working its way through the West Kilbride Primary School community at the moment, Vertex has taken the decision to postpone Midsummer Mania.

"As it is a free event, we are unable to directly contact customers via Ticketsource - please pass this info on to anyone you know who had already booked.

"We hope to reschedule for a Summer Mania event in late July or early August."
