NORTH Ayrshire Council have revealed the number of 'missed' brown bin collections over the last financial year.
The figures were brought to a meeting of full council on Wednesday, June 26, after fears were raised over bins not being collected in certain areas more often than others.
Councillor Donald Reid, therefore, posed the question to Cllr Tony Gurney - asking for figures to be broken down for each ward.
This showed that a total of 2,953 brown bins were 'missed' during the 2023/24 period.
Cllr Gurney added: “The Council collects around 5,400,000 bins per annum, of which around 1,740,000 are brown bins.
"For context, the number of missed brown bins equates to less than 0.2 per cent of brown bin collections."
Cllr Reid then looked to clarify the accuracy of this figure, questioning whether this was the number of runs that have had missed bins or the number of bins where the service wasn’t provided.
Cllr Gurney informed the elected member that the figures were produced based on complaints received from locals with regards to their bins not being collected.
The ward by ward data was as follows:
- North Coast - 276
- Garnock Valley - 504
- Ardrossan - 302
- Saltcoats and Stevenston - 439
- Kilwinning - 388
- Irvine West - 309
- Irvine East - 320
- Irvine South - 365
It was also noted that Arran does not have a brown bin collection service due to an island exemption.
