AN AYRSHIRE MSP has sent his congratulations to North Ayrshire's new MP...and has admitted his own party needs "some time to reflect" after a catastrophic General Election result.
Jamie Greene from the Scottish Conservatives claimed it was "clear" that SNP dominance in Scotland was now at an end
Mr Greene said: "I want to send my congratulations and best wishes to North Ayrshire and Arran's newest MP.
"I also want to thank Patricia Gibson for all of her work representing North Ayrshire and Arran since 2015.
"Elections are the hardest job interviews in any career, but it's now clear that the SNP's dominance in Scotland has ended, and with it their 'page one, line one' obsession with independence.
"This can only be a positive step forward. In the meantime time my party no doubt will need some time to reflect."
The result of yesterday's General Election in North Ayrshire and Arran was:
- Irene Campbell (Lab) 16,821 (39.8%)
- Patricia Gibson (SNP) 13,270 (31.4%)
- Todd Ferguson (Cons) 5,954 (14.1%)
- Mike Mann (Reform) 3,415 (8.1%)
- Cara McKee (Green) 1,327 (3.1%)
- Gillian Cole-Hamilton (Lib Dem) 1,005 (2.4%)
- Ian Charles Gibson (Soc Dem) 238 (0.6%)
- James McDaid (Socialist Lab) 232 (0.5%)
