AN urgent call has been made for barbers and hairdressers who are able to give up their time for struggling families.

Two community groups in Saltcoats have joined forces to offer a helping hand with the cost of going back to school next month.

The Saltcoats Link Up Team and the Argyle Community Association will offer free back-to-school haircuts for local children.

They are now looking for barbers and hairdressers that would give their time and talents to help out from 1-4pm on August 7.

Last year, the initiative saw 81 children have their hair cut for going back to school at no cost.

The haircuts will be provided at an event at the Argyle Community Centre in Campbell Avenue.

Nursery, primary and secondary school children are all being invited along for the "back to school trims".
