North Ayrshire youth services will be back this summer to deliver free activities and events across a host of local venues over the school break.

The include a cyber roadshow delivered via North Ayrshire Libraries (dates to be announced) and drama workshops at the Harbour Arts Centre (now fully booked).

Youth services are also teaming up with the North Ayrshire Ranger Service and Eglinton Park staff on an outdoor summer camp.

Taking place each weekday starting week commencing Monday, July 15, the Outdoors for Wellbeing weeklong all-day camp will be for primary four to primary sevens.

The programme will build their confidence and encouraging them to learn new skills beyond the classroom.

Outdoors for Wellbeing also centres around the council’s ongoing work around The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) - an important, legally binding agreement which outlines the fundamental rights of every child, regardless of their race, religion, or abilities.

In this case, the workshop focusses on Article 13 – freedom of expression and Article 31 – the right to relax, play, learn and develop.

Youth Worker Vicki Andrew , who will lead the group, said: “Now fully subscribed, we are excited to showcase the power of youth work to our young people at Eglinton Country Park this summer.

“Starting off with a series of outdoor adventure days with a mental health focus – the Outdoors for Wellbeing summer camp booked up within a matter of hours after the call-out went live on social media. We are really excited to get started!

“Our hope is that by taking part, the young people will have the chance to explore the great outdoors, taking time in beautiful surroundings to learn about nature, biodiversity and most importantly have fun.”

Young people will be led by a North Ayrshire Wellbeing youth worker alongside supporting partners including the North Ayrshire Ranger Service, Climate Change Ambassadors, Youth Work Modern Apprentices and more…
