TRIBUTES have poured in after the passing of much loved Saltcoats man Franny McKee.

Franny died on Monday, July 8, aged 54.

He was president of the Saltcoats Protestant Boys Flute Band, and the organisation paid its respects to someone it described as "a friend to all".

A spokesperson said: "As well as being a leader and organiser, Franny was a friend to all in the band and his loss will hit us all hard for a long, long time.

"A committed loyalist for the majority of his life, his loyalty was unstinting and his death leaves a huge void within the loyalist community.

"We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife and son, and to the extended family and many friends on his sad passing."

A former colleague, with whom Franny worked in the offshore industry, also paid a touching tribute to the man he said made the challenging work more bearable.

They said: "I represent Franny's working community here offshore and we're all deeply saddened by the terrible news received this morning.

"I personally had a great deal of respect for this great loyal man. His influence on the offshore community stretched far and wide.

"He made the challenge of being away from home for extended periods bearable for several men and women, lifting morale and helping to improve important welfare elements.

"He was a great leader of men and always put the interests of others ahead of his own.

"Our heart felt condolences go out to Franny's family and friends."

Another friend added: "A true friend brother and comrade who was always concerned for other people in difficult situations that was the mark of the man.

"Struggling to come to terms with this. He has left a huge void in so many lives.

"May God give strength to his family and friends at this difficult time."
