A popular village café and restaurant in West Kilbride will offer outdoor seating after plans were given the green light.

The planning application submitted by the owners of Ziggy's Restaurant for a terrace area to the side of the current building on Main Street has been approved by North Ayrshire Council officials.

We previously reported that the proposals would see the existing outdoor space of the C-listed building converted into an enclosed outdoor eating area.

At the time of the submission of the application, there were no additional information or documents that detail the potential dining plans,

However, it has now been confirmed that the restaurant will have an enclosed outdoor seating area in their former storehouse and a pergola style roof would be built over the area.

In a report of the handling of the case, a council official said: "The proposed outdoor seating area would be on the site of a former store associated with the listed building which has recently been demolished.

"The impact of the proposal on the fabric of the listed building itself would be minimal and consist of the installation of a door.

"This door is located on a rear elevation of the building which would be screened by the proposed wall and is not of as high architectural value as the front facing elevations of the building.

"The proposed door would be a modern style timber door with glazed aperture, and given the above, this is considered acceptable.

"The proposal is not considered to have any negative impact on the listed building and is considered to preserve the special architectural or historic interest of the property."

The application was approved with no conditions.
