A NEW wedding venue in West Kilbride is moving a step closer with the development of their micro-brewery.

Earlier this year, we reported that plans to transform a West Kilbride farm into a luxury wedding venue and micro-brewery had been given the green light by council planners.

The owners of Blackshaw Farm have now applied to North Ayrshire Council for an on and off sales licence allowing them to sell alcohol at their premises.

The site operated as a visitor attraction for decades and welcomed around 40,000 visitors every year until it closed in 2000.

It was purchased in early 2021 by Carol and Craig Tarft, and the couple aim to recreate the glory days of the farm by transforming the site into a popular Ayrshire wedding venue.

The venue plans were unveiled in March 2022 and secured planning permission from North Ayrshire Council in June of that year.

The farm currently has a large farmhouse, one large open barn, several smaller barns and a large car park.

There is also plans for a licensed horseshoe bar that will provide a focal point for the venue and a large window behind the ceremony space will provide views over the Ayrshire countryside towards Arran.

Couples looking to book the venue from next year can also enjoy hand-crafted beer from the new Blackshaw Brewery which is currently undergoing decoration.

The deadline for objections to the application, which was lodged with local authority bosses last week, is Friday, August 9.

This application will be heard at the North Ayrshire licensing board meeting on September 9, and if approved means that alcohol can be sold at the venue..

Those wishing to support or object to the application have until August 9 to do so and should email their correspondence to licensing@north-ayrshire.gov.uk.

Further updates on the business will also be made available on Blackshaw Barns Facebook page.
