An Irvine resident won £100 through the LitterLotto app for binning her rubbish responsibly.
The free app in North Ayrshire has grown in popularity as users bin more items of rubbish.
The council teamed up with partners to create the app which incentivises responsible litter disposal through rewards including a monthly £100 prize in North Ayrshire and a £1,000 UK-wide weekly jackpot.
The app is facilitated by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Jean Gibson Harris is the winner of June's £100 prize.
She heard about the app through a friend and is putting her winnings towards a holiday.
She said: "I am a prolific litter picker as I do voluntary litter picking – which I love - with Irvine Clean Up Crew.
"I think the app is great fun – it helps clean up our town and is simple to use."
The initiative, currently being tested via a 12-month pilot, encourages residents and visitors aged 13 and over to develop a habit of disposing of litter responsibly.
North Ayrshire’s App was launched on April 1 and the number of binned items recorded by the app surged from 1,170 in May to 3,293 in June.
Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for Green Environment and Economy, said: “This app is a great way for people across North Ayrshire to do their bit for the local environment in a fun way with some community spirit.
“I would like to thank everyone who already uses the app – and encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”
Heather McLaughlin, campaigns and social innovation manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “I’m delighted to see that Jean has been rewarded for doing the right thing through our partnership with LitterLotto and North Ayrshire Council.
“This collaboration is all about encouraging people to help tackle the country’s litter emergency and it’s brilliant to see people across the country continuing their efforts to keep Scotland beautiful.”
David Landsberg, founder and chief executive officer of LitterLotto, said: “The team and I at LitterLotto are absolutely thrilled to work in partnership with North Ayrshire Council.
“Your efforts really do make a huge difference! Please keep binning litter and helping to keep your neighbourhood clean and free of litter.”
