Six weeks of roadworks will begin on the A78 at Sharphill in Saltcoats from Monday (July 29).
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are installing a toucan crossing, including new and upgraded footway links, Vehicle Restraint Systems (road barrier), street lighting, high friction surfacing and road markings on the road.
The work will be undertaken through a combination of nearside and offside lane closures, 24 hours a day for six weeks.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
A Toucan crossing is one which allows both pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road.
Amey says that all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
They added: "This scheme will benefit pedestrians and cyclists using this route each day, by providing a controlled crossing facility and associated improvements to the surrounding infrastructure."
