A FUNDRAISER has been organised in aid of a 'Metro legend' following a horror quad bike accident in Tenerife at the end of last year.

The event is set to take place at the famous Saltcoats nightclub on Friday, August 9, in a bid to raise funds for Jamie McDowall, better known to Metro regulars as DJ Snoopy.

Back in December, Jamie suffered a bad accident on a quad bike on the Spanish island which left him with two fractures in his vertebrae. His tenth thoracic vertebra was also crushed.

A fundraising page was set up in aid of the much-loved DJ last month explaining how the accident has impacted Jamie's life, and has rendered him unable to work.

The page explained: "He has been in constant pain for months and is spending 20 hours a day laid on his back as every movement is agony for him.

"He is pushing himself as much as he can, and manages to go out for an hour or so, but he struggles and afterwards is exhausted.

"The cost of consultants is high and with no income coming in he is going to need help with hospital/consultant visits, medication required and recovery is going to be a long road for him."

The page has already attracted donations totalling more than £2,500, and now Jamie's old friends at the Metro are stepping up to lend a helping hand.

The venue will be hosting a 'We Love Old Skool' night in aid of 'Snoops' - with a number of artists stepping up to offer support for the occasion.

From 10pm until 2.30am, Mark Johnston, Jay Fullarton, DJ Korky and Tight Red Afro will be joined by DJ Gonzo, Paul Norval, MC Cally and Tony Curlett to provide a fantastic night of entertainment.

Each DJ has will be donating their fees from the event to Jamie's Gofundme page - and all ticket money made from the event is also to be added to the fundraising total.

Announcing the gig, a Metro spokesperson said: "A good friend of us all, DJ Snoopy, had a bad quad accident in Tenerife and has been unable to work since late last year, racking up hospital bills in scans and operations on his back just to try and be comfortable.

"We have organised this fundraiser and will be donating our fees towards his GoFundMe, every penny made in tickets and on the door will go directly to Snoop to help support him and his family during this tough period.

"Please, if you can, show your support."

Entry into the event will cost £10, which can be paid on the door.

Donations can also be made via the Gofundme page, which is available at tinyurl.com/DJSnoopy.
