The Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland will be marking the the end of the Second World War with a service next week.
This year marks 79 years since the surrender of Japan and the end of World War Two.
Over one million troops took months to make their way home. They came home to a different world, some with physical and some with mental injuries.
This year, the Legion branch will be remembering and thanking all that helped us to enjoy the freedom we try to enjoy today.
A short service will be held at Saltcoats Memorial at 11am on Thursday, August 15, and members of the community are welcome to join the Legion at the service.
Next year marks the 80th anniversary of events marking the end of World War Two and will be remembered appropriately.
Meanwhile, a number of veteran charities and organisations are coming together on August 28 at the Argyle Community Centre in Campbell Avenue, Saltcoats, from 10am till 1pm.
The aim is for veterans, their families and carers across North Ayrshire to pop-in for a cuppa and a chat to see what help is available.
There will be more information available closer to the time.
This is a pilot project and will be repeated if there is seen to be a need.
