A RE-OPENING date has been confirmed after the sudden closure of a Stevenston petrol station.

The premises within the town's Morrisons supermarket has been closed to allow for refurbishment work to take place.

It comes after the Motor Fuel Group (MFG) entered an agreement with the store to take over the operation forecourt petrol stations at hundreds of locations across the UK - in a deal worth £2.5 billion.

This includes the location at the Kilwinning Road supermarket, with the closure expected to be in place until Friday, August 23, when the station will re-open.

This is to allow for the refurb of the facility, with a number of changes expected. However, the Morrisons brand is set to remain within the site.

A MFG spokesperson explained: "MFG has committed significant capital into its initial upgrade of Morrisons sites across the UK, including the Kilwinning Road petrol station.

"Re-development will include an increased choice for customers across convenience products and food-to-go offerings.

"Alongside this investment in convenience retail, MFG will be investing in the forecourt infrastructure to ensure the sites comply with the latest health and safety regulations and are fit for the future.

"MFG is proud to retain the Morrisons brand on these sites, with product ranges previously sold remaining available for customers and local communities."
