A BOXING club is set to open up in Kilwinning Main Street next week.

And The Duke Boxing Club have given locals a "sneak peak" around the premises before they officially open in the town on Monday, August 26.

Monday will see the first of many sessions ran from the club, at number 94 Main Street, throughout the week.

Sessions are held for varying age ranges at different times, with all classes coming at a cost of £3.

All classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. From 5-5.45pm on these nights, the club welcomes those from the 5-10 age range. The last class from 6-7.15pm is hosted from those aged 11-17, and their 18+ class is held from 7.30-8.30pm on these days.

The club say that they cannot wait to get started in Kilwinning, after making the move to the area from Kilmarnock and the Irvine Valley.

While the club were hoping to remain within East Ayrshire, they say if it were not for their new base in Kilwinning they would be "homeless".

A spokesperson explained: "We have secured a premises that we can call our own, unfortunately we had to move out the valley and Kilmarnock as the cost of units and commercial premises were to much for the club to afford.

"In realistic terms we could not afford the properties in the Irvine valley and Kilmarnock area, we are very sorry on that. We got the opportunity to keep the club from going homeless with a premises in Kilwinning.

"We will have the full control when we open and will be looking to deliver weekend sessions also

"We are sorry once again but even if we didn’t get Kilwinning we would have still been closed for unknown time or indefinite, it was the only option we had going forward as a club."
