AN AYRSHIRE MSP has revealed he'll be taking a break from social media - after receiving an "endless barrage of abuse".

Jamie Greene stated that the levels of slander has become intolerable since his involvement in the Scottish Conservative Party leadership race.

Mr Greene pulled out of the race earlier this week, after earlier stating his intention to vie to become Douglas Ross' replacement.

Announcing his break from social media, the West of Scotland MSP said that protecting his family was a key driver in his decision.

He commented: "I’ll be taking a wee break from social media. My family and friends are important.

"Since I got involved in the leadership contest the levels of abuse and endless barrage has been intolerable.

"People need to think about the fact we are all human, both allies and foes. Be decent."
