A North Ayrshire teenager is giving fellow Royal Marines cadets their marching orders after qualifying as a drill leader.
In a unique first, Dalry's Lance Corporal Sam joins an elite group of specialists who shape the parade ground skills of other youngsters.
Sam, 16, undertook a gruelling course at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Lympstone, Devon, to gain his Drill Leader Qualification.
The pupil at St Matthew’s Academy has been an enthusiastic member of Irvine Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets for four years.
Sam’s new position makes him the first of his kind in the command area.
Since becoming a Royal Marines Cadet, Sam has gained his RYA Powerboat Level 2 and is also a Marksman in Air Rifle and Full Bore Shooting.
A keen footballer outwith cadets, Sam is looking forward to joining the Royal Marines in the future.
Sub-Lieutenant (SCC) Robert Duncan RNR, Commanding Officer of Irvine Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets, said: “I’m very proud of Sam and his achievement.
“I’ve seen how committed he is to the discipline and the effort he has put in to honing his skills.
“This is a first for both Clyde South District Sea Cadets and 2 Troop Royal Marines Cadets to have a Drill Leader and I’m sure that Sam will do a fantastic job as an instructor.”
