North Parish Church in Saltcoats hosted a vibrant evening of African song and dance in September 2014 with guests the Osiligi Maasai Warriors – traditional performers from Kenya. They are pictured with Evelyn Porter, Moira Smith and Dora Scott from the Church Session.

Ardrossan’s iconic castle got tied up in the referendum debate in 2014 after supporters of independence climbed up scaffolding to hoist a Yes flag, a Saltire and a Lion Rampant. But the move was branded dangerous, with North Ayrshire Council warning the large flag could ‘act like a sail’ and take down the scaffolding. The flags were removed.

A terminally ill man got his dying wish delivered to his door – a supply of Kandy Bar pies. Former Saltcoats man Craig Ballantyne, then living in Wiltshire, was suffering from cancer and had no appetite – apart from Scotch pies. When Kandy Bar boss Stephen McCallister, pictured, heard, he drove all the way from Saltcoats to deliver the pies himself.

Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club were putting the finishing touches to the upgrade of their building in 2014. Thanks to the Big Lottery Awards For All, who gave them £8,926, the club now had a new sign, new windows and an improved function suite.

St Matthew’s Academy also revealed their students leaders for 2014/15. They were Head Girl - Heather Rennie; Head Boy - David Benson; depute Head Boy – Matthew Northcote; depute Head Girl - Kara Scott.
